Child of Sadness

Hidden in the darkness,
No one knows she's there
Crying out for someone to hold on to.
Fighting to come out alive,
Struggling for air,
A gulp of water when oxygen's needed,
The tiny cry in the night.

This little girl of sadness,
Brought out of mother's pain.
This child of love and comfort
Will never be seen again.
Crushed by all around her,
Swallowed up in misery,
Life ends as quickly as it had
Begun in secrecy.

Drowning in the waters,
A heart stops noiselessly.
Injection of fear and tears causes none to see.
Nightfall brings rejoicing
But daytime only pain.
This small still voice echoing
I'll always hear again.

This little girl of sadness,
Brought out of mother's pain.
This child of love and comfort
Will never be seen again.
Crushed by all around her,
Swallowed up in misery,
Life ends as quickly as it had
Begun in secrecy.

Children never seen again,
Their lives hidden from view.
Babies crying out for life,
Unheard by me and you.
When will the voices be noticed?
When will we see a change?
Until the day when lives are found...
I'll only feel this pain.
